PATTAYA (continued)

SUNDAY 13th:

Breakfast at 09:30. Usual vast array of available food.
Popped out of the hotel into the 37º heat and walked up Pattaya Klang to Soi Buakhao as Aom needed some clothing alterations done. Bought some stuff to take up to Surin tomorrow and then back to our room.
Around 12:30 one of Aom's cousins, Yee, phoned on her day off and the two of them beetled off shopping and luncheoning and left me in peace for some hours to do what I wanted.

  • TOP LEFT: Aom and cousin Yee came to visit, go shopping and eating.

  • TOP RIGHT: Aom, Yee and Aom's friend Joy joined us later.

  • BOTTOM: Well I couldn't miss-out on not getting in on a shot with these 3 lovely ladies.

  • So much for expecting a quiet night before travelling up to Surin in the morning. The three have made plans I'm afraid; plans which I reckon will turn a quiet night upside down.
My suspicions were aroused when the three of them started showering and drying and styling each others hair turning the room into a boudoir.
Anyway, the plan is to meet up with Yee and Joy in Beach Club of Walking Street later on.

    ABOVE:     The ladies boudoir.

The two girls left early to finish off getting ready at their own place leaving Aom and I to shower and change. We were all ready spruced up and about to leave when the sky started filling with electricity. The thunder & lightening wasn't too bad but the heavens opened as we arrived downstairs. We sat it out for 30 minutes until it eased off enough to venture down to Beach Road and hail a Baht-bus down to Walking Street.
Down Walking Street and straight into Beach Club where we were to meet up with Yee and Joy again. Had a couple of drinks in Beach Club and chatted and then left to drop into the 808 Club nearby.
The rest of the night was spent playing pool. The rain returned with a vengeance around midnight and it was clear it wasn't going to clear in the near future. So, we carried on playing until it became clear we HAD to leave as we were up early in the morning to travel up to Surin.
We'd had nothing to eat since lunchtime so we legged out of Walking Street and down Beach Road to a restaurant that was still open; it was 1:30am by this time. A snack meal each followed by a walk up one of the Sois (Thai street) and onto Second Road were we got a bus back to near our hotel.
Did most of the packing and went to bed around 02:30.

    • TOP:    Yours truly being hussled by the threesome.

    • 2ND ND 3RD:    The husslers in action.

    • BOTTOM:     The smiling victors..... actually I won.... but only just.

    MONDAY 14th:
Awake early, made some coffee, finished off a crossword and by 07:45 we were down enjoying the hotels most excellent breakfast fayre. The temptation to overeat is significant but we both managed to resist over-indulging.
Back in the room ro finish packing then down to Reception to settle the bill.
Our ride to Surin arrived at 09:30 and we were off and away from Pattaya.
Thailand's a great place if you know the way things work, same as most places I suppose. Aom had made some queries and we managed to find a taxi driver who had family in Surin, from a village not far from Panomdongrak (Aom's family home) actually. She'd made arrangement and struck a deal which was a 4500 Baht 'fare' for the 6-8 hour drive to Phanomdongrak. At time of writing this was around £80 - a good deal for such a long journey in air conditioned comfort.
A relatively good uneventful journey until we got to just inside Buriram province when a load banging and juddering announced a blown rear tyre. The Toyota taxi only had a space-saver spare wheel which was a bit lacking in air. It took three service stations until we got one that had an air pump.
The remainder of the journey was uneventful, apart from an overturned wagon and a few police check-points, and we arrived at Phanomdongrak at around 16:40.
Family clearly pleased to see us and our little boy Jack was a little overwhelmed by it all. I guess he'll come round in a day or two.
The new house has come on a long way since our last visit with all windows in and the downstairs floor beautifully tiled with a nice en suite bedroom for us. Bed around 21:30.

    • TOP:     Tyre-change for our taxi.

    • BOTTOM LEFT:     Aom sheltering from the heat and a safe distance whilst wheel changing was underway.

    • BOTTOM RIGHT:     Another delay caused by this overturned wagon with its load of pipes.
