RETURN TO PHANOM DONG RAK
MONDAY 25th:
Up and about at 6am to finish packing. Down for a spot of breakfast at 7am, followed by toting the case down to the car.
Check out done, bills paid and I was driving along to the ferry terminal.
As luck would have it, we were able to drive straight on after buying tickets and we were one of the last cars crammed onto the ship. That’s an hour saved already.
Usual 40 minute crossing and we were off and on our way back north-east to Phanom Dong Rak.
I ended up driving the entire 345 miles mainly uneventful trip; stopping off only three times. Twice for Aom to buy Durian fruit for her mum. These things stink to high heaven and many hotels ban them. Apparently, they taste nice although I’ve yet to test this for myself.
The remaining stop 50 miles from home was for coffee at an Amazon Café outlet and get a bite to eat.
We arrived back at home around 4pm. A swift beer to cool off followed by dinner at 8pm.
TUESDAY 26th:
Slept well after the 350 mile drive yesterday. Very, very hot still here in Surin province; 38°C which feels like 43°C as there is no cooling breeze. It must be hot because the locals are complaining about the high temperatures.
To be honest, I spent most of the in front of one of the many cooling fans and keeping well away from the sun.
WEDNESDAY 27th:
A busy day for Aom, she wants to take a shed load of eatables back to UK. Things that cost a fortune in UK are really cheap here in rural Thailand. I just hope she manages to get the stuff through customs at Manchester.
Treated ourselves to a noodle late lunch at a local roadside outlet. Very basic place with a clay floor and cost a whole 40THB each. Actually delicious.
It was then down to the dull and boring packing our cases before our return to Bangkok tomorrow.
Sunset at the farm.
