KOH CHANG (continued)

TUESDAY 8th:
Usual delicious breakfasts. On the road again but this time stopped off at the port of Bang Bao.

Once a sleepy fishing village built on stilts out on the sea, Bang Bao is now a destination popular with tourists who stay in hillside boutique resorts or backpacker hostel. A busy covered flea market with all manner of souvenir shops and seafood eateries occupies part of the Bang Bao Pier, at the end of which is a local fishing spot and a lighthouse. Traditional wood houses on stilts cluster around a small harbour.
The walkway to the boats is inundated with tourist knick-knack and souvenir stall and restaurants. You really do run the gauntlet.

Below is a series of images of Bang Bao.

TUESDAY 8th (continued)
Very overcast by midday which kept a lot of people away from the beach-front and pool.
Young Jack had made some friends so he was OK.
Weather cleared slightly late afternoon and we were seen dining down the beach again.
We booked a boat trip for tomorrow. This is a so-called 5 island tour which I know from last time we did this in 2022 it's more like 1 island and 4 bits of rock with some bushes on them. Anyway, it's all-inclusive and we get picked up at 8am and taken to Bang Bao to catch the boat.

WEDNESDAY 9th:
Well the best laid plans, etc, etc... it all went wrong for me with an upset stomach. I diddn't sleep very well and the last place I felt like being was on board a boat with limited conveniences.
I insisted Aom & Jack still went, so that was that!
Spent the day in the room trying to keep hydrated. This wasn't a disaster as I've been on one these boat trips before in '22.

  • ABOVE: A series of photos taken with the underwater camera by Aom on the boat trip. 5 islands visited and some reefs.

  • THURSDAY 10th:
    Last day on Ko Chang.
Feeling OK this morning after yesterday's stomach issue.
Thunderstorms hammering away most of the night and dawn was very overcast with continuous rain and rumbles of thunder. At least it was warm rain.
Confined to our room until early afternoon as the last of the rain petered-out. By 2:30 we were in the main pool as the sun came blasting out.
Back in the room around 5:30pm and did a quick pack before heading out for dinner.
