THAILAND TRAVELS: A Journal
PATTAYA (cont'd) & KOH LARN - TIEN BAY Page 19
Wednesday 23rd October 2013:
A 'nothing' day. Routine day doing mundane day-to-day stuff, like:-
going to the bank, supermarket food shopping, lunch, Aom going to the laundry, Aom going to salon for hair-related stuff, and to finish off, a massive electrical storm that put a stop to everything else until around 19:00 when we just popped down to a local bar for a couple then off to eat... exciting stuff (not) but even here one has to address day-to-day 'mundanery'. (is there such a word?)
Anyway, here's a short movie of the tropical thunderstorm; one of several that sneak up late-on in the day:-
From time to time you get some real oddities in this country. Just seen on the TV news that there's an elephant problem not far from here.
For some reason dozens of wild Asian elephants are coming down from the forested hills and causing problems. Numerous cars have been attacked and there's been several deaths of humans. Perhaps they want a piece of the action here in Pattaya?.
Friday 25th:
Decided on another trip to Koh Larn. As before bike to Pattya Port, on the ferry and away by 09:30.
Within minutes of arriving at Koh Larn we'd done a deal with a motorbike-taxi man who took us swiftly to Tien Bay on the far side (seaward) of Koh Larn. The deal was that he'd come back and pick us up at 15:30, which he did. This bay is fairly tricky to get to. Beach pure white with clear water.
Found a spot amongst some Mangrove trees with the sea lapping at our feet. OK there were lots of sun-loungers about but there was no that many on the beaches.
Water around 29º. Air around 32º. Swimming, dossing, snorkelling yet again.

TOP LEFT: Ferries at Pattaya Port.
TOP RIGHT: Ferry No.1 at Koh Larn quay.
This is the ferry, No 1, that now lies on the bottom of the Gulf of Thailand. It was the ferry that hit a rock and sank on November 3rd killing 6 people in Pattaya's worst maritime disaster. [see PAGE 22 FOR THE FULL STORY]
SECOND: Tien Bay with beach. The walkway in the right-hand photo is the only access to the beach.
THIRD: Our 'spot' amongst the Mangrove trees.
BOTTOM RIGHT: My cappuccino. Nice touch from the Thai cafe-staff.
