KOH KOOD

(continued)

Air Temperature 36ºC   Seawater Temperature 32ºC

This page starts with photos from the trek along the shore. We walked as far as the heat of the day permitted as I was daft enough to forget to bring drinking water along with us. Just shorts, T-shirt, shades, a hat and flip-flops, oh and a camera and my wife.

The crowded beach near Shantaa, blissful.

A loooong swing for Aom. This one really did motor (movie below).

ABOVE LEFT:    The rock outcrop that hampered our beach-trek.
ABOVE RIGHT:  The track through the jungley bit that bypassed those rocks on the way back. The occasional THUD of falling coconuts was a bit disconcerting.

ABOVE LEFT:    Aom strolling through the coconut grove.    Watch out for those falling 'nuts darling!!
ABOVE RIGHT:  One of the main roads on Koh Kood. It's a main road 'cos it's concrete.

SATURDAY 21st:
Well we were supposed to be renting a motor bike out today and for the next few days, but alas we were a touch tardy in getting out of bed. Not only that, I couldn't entice Aom into going for a pre-breakfast swim. So, an early breakfast was decided upon.
Cloudy early this morning, so maybe we'll get a cooler day. Sea flat calm
Later in the morning the temperature plummeted to a bitterly cold 31ºC; very pleasant especially as we'd agreed to go on a canoe/kayak trip.
So, later in the morning we helped ourselves to one of the 3-seater kayaks, loaded up with snorkeling gear, etc, and trundled north along the shoreline and down into what they call here a canal. It's no such thing, it's an inlet which goes inland for about 400 metres before bottoming-out. Interesting though with some small mangroves here and there. Very jungle-like towards the end of the inlet or creek.
Out at sea again we rounded a low headland looking for somewhere to beach the boat and go snorkelling. Unfortunately, all we could see were rocks and the next headland was a long way off. So back towards base again but we nearly got swept onto some huge rocks thanks to Aom's canoeing skills.
I was in the rear seat and was head down fiddling about with the camera. On looking up all I could see were rocks. I shouted "watch out!!" to Aom who, for some reason, started paddling forwards. I back-paddled hard and the rocks were safely bypassed... just, bringing Aom's boating skills into question.

Lunch was a tuna-melt & coffee for me and something unpronounceable Thai dish for Aom. Both equally delicious.
Afternoon was a lazy one. Only in the low 30's today with a breeze off the ocean which is a pleasant change.
A lot more people in the resort now, possibly due it being a Thai holiday plus it's a weekend; a lot more chatter in the restaurant add to a bit more atmosphere.
An excellent dinner yet again; almost everyone we meet says Shantaa has the best food on Koh Kood
Here's some stuff from our kayak adventure.

  • TOP:  Up the creek with a paddle.

  • BOTTOM LEFT:  The end of said creek. Back-paddle quickly...!!

  • BOTTOM RIGHT:  TT at the helm.

And to finish off this page, here's a movie of "Up The Creek With A Paddle"
