KANCHANABURI (continued)
FRIDAY 14th:
Time to go and do the touristy bit. Arrived at Kanchanaburi train station at 10:00 and bought tickets for the trip along the famous (or rather infamous) Death Railway.
Train was packed with a hoard of school-kids taking up the best seats. We managed to squeeze into some close together for the trip across the Bridge Over The River Kwai and beyond and across the infamous Wang Po wooden viaduct. A lot of people, including the scholars
got off at Tham Krasae Station leaving us with plenty of seats for our continuing journey to the end of the line at Nam Tok.
Disembarked and opted for some snacks & drinks in a restaurant. The owner of the place also ran a taxi (songthaew) and we contracted him to take us to the Sai Yok Noi Waterfall (Khao Pang Waterfall). This is a popular tourist destination. Sadly, there wasn't a lot of water cascading but the pool below the falls attracted bathers, including Jack who spent ages in the pool.
Waited in a shelter for a songthaew with other locals for the trip back to Nam Tok. Boarded the train back at 3:30pm. This was a slow "stopping" train; stopping at every halt.
Got back to Kanchanaburi and dived into a restaurant for drinks and ended up having dinner here. Back to the resort around 8:30pm.
