SUNDAY 16th:
Did the 180km drive from Kanchanaburi in good time. Plenty of time to take in several archaeological sites before locating our next place of stay.
This was a Homestay called the P.U. Inn Resort. Actually, a little oasis down a side alley surrounded by tat.
Basic, yes, but clean with a good pool and reasonable, if not limited, breakfasts. We'd opted for a 2 night stay here.
Just at the top of the alley was a road with several bars and restaurants which made things even more civilised.

Returned to one of the archaeological sites and dodged numerous guys with red flags encouraging drivers to park at their spot. We did park at the last one as it had free parking and a noodle bar attached; which we made use of.
Quite an extensive site with many visitors parading in traditional Siamese costume along with hired photographers. Very hot as per usual. Time to get back to our lodgings and out for dinner.
Ayutthaya was the capital of the Kingdom of Siam, and a prosperous international trading port from 1350 until razed by the Burmese in 1767. The ruins of the old city now form the Ayutthaya Historical Park, an archaeological site that contains palaces, Buddhist temples, monasteries and statues. The park is on an island between 3 rivers.
The city was never rebuilt in the same location and remains known today as an extensive archaeological site.
The capital was moved downstream and a new city built at Bangkok.

MONDAY 17th:
A not going anywhere day. Following a decent breakfast and a 1-hour's doss we made use of the swimming pool.
Found a noodle shop down the road for lunch; not bad.
For evening dinner we drove to a recommended restaurant which did offer very good food incredibly cheaply.
Did a cursory gathering of stuff ready to pack in the morning.
Next stop the Khao Yai National Park. Stayed at a resort in an isolated spot surrounded by green forested hills and lush vegetation with mountains beyond.
Too high up to be really tropical; it’s reminiscent of parts of Wales. A pleasant escape from the heat and high humidity down below. Monsoon starting to kick in now.
