THAILAND TRAVELS: A Journal
PATTAYA (cont'd) JOMTIEN and KHAO CHI CHAN
Page 13
Jomtien is a town located about 3 km from South Pattaya and is home to many high-rise condominiums (condos), beachside hotels, beaches and restaurants.
It is similar to Na-Kluea in North Pattaya in that it is a 'posher' area with classy high-rise, often foreign-owned condos.
MONDAY 14th October:
Took a trip to Buddha Mountain (Khao Chi Chan, 25km to the south of Pattya on our bike.
We had no map so a few wrong turns were encountered. Aom stopped a few times and asked some local people only to find that one old lady sent us 10 km in the opposite direction. In the end we found the place by a back-road route.
You would think that finding a mountain would be relatively simple .... but, hey, this IS Thailand.
Khao Chi Chan is a mountain with a Buddha image carved on a sheer face of rock on the mountainside. The Buddha image was drawn on the cliff by using laser technology. This is the largest carved Buddha image in the world, being 130 meters high and 70 meter wide.
This magnificent cliff facet, displays the outline of a sitting Sukhothai-Lanna Buddha inlaid with gold leaf. The image was constructed in commemoration of the King’s Golden Jubilee and his 50th anniversary of his accession to the throne.
The surrounding areas have a display of decorated gardens, flowering plants, pools and many pavilions for meditation.

On the highway... rattling along at 40kph.
A couple of shots of things seen whilst on the road:-
LEFT: These scruffy little roadside 'kiosks' are everywhere. This one spotted on the back-road to the Mountain selling.... fruit I think but probably almost anything else.
RIGHT: This "Muk" actually tasted very good. I opted for a mucky iced cappuccino.
