TUESDAY 16th
Breakfast at 08:00. Young Jack not keen on breakfasts in the apartment so after we had ours we strolled down to Soi-8 and got some street food he likes; mainly pork-on-a-stick as he calls it.
Took Jack up to the rooftop pool for a session whilst I read my Kindle. Even in the shade it was really hot and sweaty.
Aom had decided to go visit a cousin who runs a successful hair-dressing business across the city. This means she and Jack will be gone for at least 4 hours plus travelling time. Time for me to chill then and catch up on this blog.
The 4 hours turned into 9 hours. I was really getting concerned now. She had no phone since losing it near Trat and no easy way of contacting me; I was not best pleased. I was especially concerned as she had young Jack with her. It's pitch black night here by 7pm.
In the end they appeared getting out of a taxi. Apparently, she had a lot of trouble getting a taxi from her cousin’s place. OK, but she could have caught an MRT train which would have got her within easy walking distance to the apartment.
In the end we had dinner in Hilary1 again along with a few beers.
WEDNESDAY 17th.
This will be our last full day in Thailand for 2024.
Breakfast at 8 followed by Aom going to Klongtoey Market to buy foodstuff to take home to UK. The stuff she buys is a tiny fraction of what it costs in UK. I just hope her baggage allowance can withstand it.
Did a mini shopping stint down Sukhumvit Road looking for some clothes for Jack. He's grown out of many of them.
I did a deal on a new pair of sandals; decent reduction, and one of those cat things that wave their paw all the time. Why? No idea.
Followed this by a visit to our usual massage place for an hour and a half foot massage apiece; very nice.
By this time it was nearly 5pm and I was a bit hungry so we popped into The Swan restaurant in Soi-4 for some genuine Thai grub. This place can be described as street-food in a cafe as you can watch your food being cooked and you know it's fresh.
Back at the apartment packing was under way in earnest but I had time to take Jack up to the rooftop swimming pool for 40 mins or so.
Packing 90% done we ventured out to The Swan again for eats and turned in around 9:30... early start tomorrow for a 06:30 taxi pick-up to Suvarnabhumi Airport and the long drag 14 hours back to UK with Emirates.
THURSDAY 18th.
Awake by 05:15, out of bed, showered and finished off the packing.
06:15 took luggage down to the bay and the taxi was already waiting.
It was then I received a message NOT from Emirates but from the agency who arranged our flights. Apparently, there'd been massive flooding at Dubai and a lot of travel disruption. The knock-on effect meant our flight was delayed by 5 hours. It was too late to postpone the taxi as it was already there loaded up. In the event, I paid all bills, jumped in the taxi and off we went to Suvarnabhumi Airport.
And everything, and I mean EVERYTHING went wrong and downhill after that to create possibly the worst travel experience in my life.
Absolutely disgusted with Emirates... why? Read on to Page 11
